You are accepted or you are about to apply to one of our Exchange programs. There are a couple of important issues that you have to take notice of before you come to Antwerp.
International students, selected by their home university to study at Karel de Grote University College (KdG) as part of an exchange program, should be announced by their home university to the KdG International Relations Office (IRO) for admission.
Please make sure that you fill in the correct application form connected to the exchange program:
Only students selected in the framework of a bilateral cooperation agreement can be accepted.
The original application form and the required documents should be returned duly completed and signed, to the IRO before the application deadlines mentioned on the application forms.

We recommended you to reserve your room as soon as possible. Start searching for a room as soon as you receive your info package, as this will increase your chances of finding accommodation.
If you do not care to book a room in advance, you can come to Antwerp a week or two before the semester starts and have a look around. If there is a room available, people stick a note on the window.
In the meantime one of the following youth hostels can put you up for the night.
The rent of a furnished room is about € 280 / month for a full academic year. Studios are more expensive and cost about € 350 / month or more. A surplus might be charged for short rental periods. Note that the costs for water, electricity and heating are usually not included in the rental price and that cooking utensils, bed linen and towels are usually not provided.
Students from EU member states do not need a visa or a residence permit but if you are going to live in Antwerp for a couple of months you are going to be an Antwerp citizen and you need to make registration at the alien police.
Upon arrival there will be an information session and an appointment for the registration will be made.
Within 8 days following your arrival you have to register at Karel de Grote University College, International Relations Office at the Van Schoonbekestraat 143, 2018 Antwerp.
You have to bring documents to this appointment.
Please make the required copies of all these documents prior to arrival:
As a foreign student you have to arrange health insurance and third party insurance. Adequate coverage for medical costs is essential and is required to obtain a residence permit. Students are strongly advised to have third-party insurance.
Third-party insurance is designed to cover you in the event that you are sued for compensation by a third party, when they feel that they have suffered a loss as a result of your negligence or carelessness. In the event that you are successfully sued by a third party your third party insurance will cover the costs of damages awarded against you and of any legal costs that you have incurred as a result of disputing in case.
In case of insufficient cover a special insurance policy is available via Karel de Grote University College or via S.I.P.
In cooperation with the university of Antwerp and a number of other colleges of higher education we created a practical guide for international students.
Each of the following links will help you to get to know the beautiful city of Antwerp.
Erasmus Student Network is the official European organisation that tries to bring a structure in all local initiatives around the European Exchange Program called Erasmus.
ESN Antwerp is a local division of the Erasmus Student Network and works more or less like a student club as we know it in Belgium. The club welcomes all Erasmus-students and other foreign students to Antwerp. They try to get you settled; help you out with whatever practical problem you may encounter. Apart from that, they try to learn you more about student life as we know it here in Belgium, with all its rich traditions.
Karel de Grote- Hogeschool (KdG) is a college of higher education in the city of Antwerp that was founded in 1995. There are currently more then 9000 students enrolled and KdG is known to take the interests of each and every one of them to heart. Our student-friendly approach is reflected in our policy of student participation as well as in the excellent social service and guidance that we offer our students.
> All about Karel de Grote-Hogeschool
At Karel de Grote-Hogeschool each academic year starts mid September and activities are put to a stop at the end of June. Students get to enjoy two weeks of Christmas holidays, two weeks of Easter holidays and a couple of days off during the year as well. In most of our departments the academic year is divided into four terms. One term equals six weeks, followed by one or two weeks of evaluation.
The exact dates of exam periods are not the same for all departments. For information about these dates, please contact your departmental coordinators.
