Read about the experiences of the incoming teachers and the interesting people they met!

"My first motivation to participate in this teaching experience was to take up a new challenge. After ten years as a teacher, I felt it was time to try something new. The proposal came from the International Department of my school. I had already taught in English to our own students for a couple of years, so the step I had to take was not that big anymore.

The Karel de Grote University College was actually looking for an out-lecturer in Consumer Behavior, which I had already taught to the students of Bachelor 1 in marketing. Our international coordinator heard about it and from then on, everything ran very quickly. Before I could really think twice, I was “engaged”!

I have to recognize that I spent a lot of time preparing this 16-hour lecture, but it was worth doing it. I was warmly welcomed by the whole team in Antwerp. I had more or less thirty students registered, we took some time to get to know each other, and meeting people from so many different countries and cultures is always a pleasure for me.

I finished my second experience in Antwerp early this month and I have already agreed to do it again next year, so that my work can pay off! I would encourage all my colleagues to try this once; it is refreshing, challenging and full of good surprises.

Teaching abroad gives me the benefit of looking beyond the boundaries of weekly lectures at my home university.

On average there are ten different nations represented in my class. And it is intriguing to see how students from different backgrounds react to legal problems which are alike in every country.

Plus, through the Teaching Staff Mobility program I get to know colleagues from all over Europe which often leads to further contact and cooperation.
